About this guide
Who writes Let's Rock Uluru, what we will and will not publish, and how corrections are handled.
What this is
A working guide to the Red Centre, written for people driving themselves. It covers Uluṟu-Kata Tjuṯa National Park, Watarrka and the West MacDonnell Ranges, and the roads that connect them. The unit of organisation is the decision you actually have to make — which approach, which walk, which season, which pass — rather than the destination as a list of attractions.
What we will not do
- We do not retell creation stories. Where a story belongs to Aṉangu, we point you to the Cultural Centre and to ranger-guided walks instead of retelling it.
- We do not quote prices. They change, and a stale figure is worse than none: someone budgets on it and arrives to a different number. Where a cost matters we name the category and link to the authority that publishes it.
- We do not present an estimate as a measurement. Figures we could not verify against a published source are marked as approximate in the sentence itself.
- We do not publish a page to fill a gap. If there is nothing useful to say about a place, there is no page.
How the dates work
Every guide carries two dates that mean different things. The publication date is when it was written. The checked date is when a person last verified the distances, road surfaces, opening hours and rules against the authority that publishes them. When those two are the same, nothing has needed correcting since publication — not that the country has stopped changing.
Corrections
Roads close, parks change their rules, and access arrangements are revised. If something here is wrong, the authority's page is the one to trust and we would rather hear about it than leave it. Write to us and include the page and the source.
Who publishes this
Let's Rock Uluru is published by the people behind Wicked Campers, who hire campervans and 4WDs in Australia. That is a commercial relationship and we are not going to pretend otherwise: some pages link to their booking pages, and those links are marked by being useful rather than by being frequent. Nothing in the guide is written to sell a vehicle, and where a two-wheel-drive is the honest answer we say so.
We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of country throughout Central Australia and their continuing connection to land, water and culture. We pay our respects to Elders past and present.
